主讲人简介:
Dr. Jidong Kang is a research scientist and lab manager of both the Mechanical Testing Lab and Pipeline Lab at CanmetMATERIALS, Natural Resources Canada in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He is also an adjunct Professor in McMaster University and the University of Waterloo. Dr. Kang received his Doctor of Engineering degree from Tianjin University, China in 1994. He has extensive research experience in both the experimental studies and modeling of mechanical behavior, physical metallurgy and welding mechanics of structural materials. Recently, his work has focused more on fracture behavior of lightweight metals, mechanical properties of aluminum resistance spot welds and stress corrosion cracking in pipelines. He has authored and co-authored over 100 scientific publications. He developed a novel shear test specimen and test procedure that has been included in the latest ASTM Standard B831-14. A recipient of 2005 SAE Excellence in Oral Presentation Award, Dr. Kang has served as the co-chair for the Advances in Lightweight Materials Session at SAE World Congress since 2012 and was awarded the SAE McFarland Award in 2015. Dr. Kang is a registered Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario and an International Welding Engineer.

X射线计算机断层扫描(XCT)已广泛用于医学诊断与研究。但其灵敏度局限在毫米量级。近年来,微米量级灵敏度的XCT已逐渐用于金属材料研究,比如疲劳损伤与裂纹的监测,以建立定量的材料疲劳寿命预测模型。XCT提供了常规材料研究手段所不能达到的三维在线检测能力,从而深化了人们对很多习以为常的现象的认识。在这个报告里,我们给出一些具体的例子来了解XCT如何颠覆人们对材料内部缺陷及其对疲劳性能影响的几个例子,以期大家更好地认识到眼见有时并非为实,因为天外有天。
